I needed the foam to coffee ratio to be absolutely perfect.

[Three (familiar) teenagers are headed back to the Villa, carrying white take-away cups with green starfish prominently printed on them, backpacks hanging from their shoulders; Maka and Rin are walking together, close in that way that speaks of comfortable intimacy. Kid is leading the way by a stride or two, and it's his SFC that's recording the trio of friends.

Yep, they're one week late returning from their camping trip, bringing Star(fish)bucks. If you look closely enough, you might spy his Eevee, Pip, capering around in their wake. Someone's tied a ribbon around his neck, because he's just so cute.]

Maybe next time we should warn them about Kid's uh... 'habits'.

[Rin would have used air quotes, if his hands weren't full. Maka answers next, sounding resigned enough about their friend's antics, but it seems as though they survived the camping trip without any trauma.]

A warning can only do so much when it comes to him.
Heheh... that's true. He's kind of a handful isn't he?
Well yeah, that's just the way Kid is. I never told you that he actually has two Weapon partners, did I? Obviously it takes two people to reign him in.
Seriously? Geez, they got their work cut out for them, don't they?

[Oh man, lovey dovey couples and their conversations. Kid butts in, changing the subject, because GOSH HE CAN HEAR YOU TWO JUST FINE. Loftily:]

We are recording, you know. Hello, everyone. We're almost to the Villa now, and we're interested in an update on anything important we might have missed--
...Why did this need to be recorded.
Yeah, seriously. We woulda just got home and been like "hi, we're home". Are you really that impatient?
[Without hesitation:] Yes.
... you're somethin' else, Kid.
Whatever at least we're home.
As pleasant as it is to get away now and then, it's always a relief to return ho-- oh good heavens no.
... what the hell happened here?

[You know that moment in a movie where the parents went off on vacation and the kids threw a party of truly epic proportions? This is Ground Zero of Party Central. The Aftermath. That is the level of mess visible in the foyer of the Villa, now that they've arrived at their destination. Rin is mystified, Maka looks like she might just break the party responsible in two, and Kid?

Well, just be glad the video ends with his blood-curdling shriek of horror.]

[Rin no now you're the one assuming things.]

[ She's laughing now. ]

Well then, tell me what did happen!

[Damn it, Mom!]

I-it's-- ... nothin that big... just... [muttermutter voice totally fading out here. Yeah he's actually kind of embarrassed to be talking about this with his mom.]

You're mumbling, Rin.

I said I loved her and she said she loved me back... A-actually she said it first cause I was bein' stupid about it... But we still said it...

[ Wait. They said. What?

Give her a moment, she's still in shock over this, just a little ...

... and then her eyes light up and she gets excited. ]

You did?! Oh my goodness, you two just get cuter and cuter every day! Awww, my little boy, growing up so quickly and finding true love! It's all just so beautiful!

Aw man-- Mom, c'mon!

[If he had it in him to clutch his face and roll around, he probably would. But his face certainly turns an impressive shade of red while he groans loudly and looks like he wants to go bury himself in a hole somewhere for a while.]

It's not cute, okay?! It's just-- ... I really do care about her a lot, y'know? Geez, calm down, wouldya...

But this is love! Accepting someone special for who they are and loving everything about them, both good qualities and bad! Granted, I knew you boys would find someone special, both of you, but it's actually happening with one of you! And so quickly, too! It's just so sweet and surreal!

[ She sighs happily, her face in her hands and an absolutely dorky smile on her face. And we wonder where Rin gets his dork genes from. She then becomes serious again, and comes down from her little adorable-induced high. ]

In any case, Rin, I don't doubt that you will, but have a reminder anyway. Continue treating Maka right. You two are very blessed to have met and come together in this place, and heaven and hell both know that the two of you need each other.

[ A gentle, warm smile crosses her face after she says that. Her boys are both growing up so quickly ... too quickly, really. While she's happy to see the men her boys are becoming, it also reminds her of just how much of their lives she's missed ... and how maybe, sometimes, she wishes that they wouldn't grow up as quickly as they have. ]

[Nope still groaning. When she puts it like that he can't help but be embarrassed. Really, he doesn't deal with gushing like that very well. Praise he can handle but for some reason all of this just makes him feel like he's being put in a spot he's never been in before.

But when she goes serious, it does bring a question up in his mind that he hadn't thought about before.]

You don't think we're... I'unno, too young for this maybe?

[ She sits back, closing her eyes and continuing to smile at him. ]

Love can happen at any age. You're young, but I know you wouldn't have said it if you didn't know exactly what you were feeling.

[ She opens her eyes again, looking at him with a proud expression in her eyes. ]

You're more in-tune with your feelings than a lot of people your age, Rin. You feel what you feel, and damn anyone who disagrees, because they're your feelings. If what you feel for Maka is really love, then you know that and you know it well. Nobody in this world, other worlds, in Assiah or Gehenna, can tell you you're wrong.

I don't know Maka very well at all, but ... I have a feeling that she has her own way of knowing that what she's feeling is genuine, too. She's a bright girl. The two of you are good together, and I'm very happy for you both.

[It's true, on both accounts, but Rin doesn't really know what to say to that. He never does. Honest as he is, he's still a teenage boy that doesn't always know how to express what he's feeling or thinking in the right way. Or at least, in an eloquent way.

He rubs at the back of his neck, letting out an odd noise before sighing.]

Yeah I guess you're right... I just don't want people givin' us a hard time for it, y'know? But people here might not do that anyway.

People are going to have their own opinions, there's really no getting around that. If what you're feeling is really genuine, nothing else should matter.

[ She's quiet for a few moments, then she looks to Rin curiously. ]

Do you think Maka would like to go out to dinner with me?

That's true...

[He'd be lying if he said it wouldn't bother him.]

Huh? ... I don't see why not.

[ She can't deny that other peoples' opinions bother her to some extent, too. It's why she's still so timid about trying to get to know Yukio better.

At his response to her question, she breathes a sigh of relief. ]

Oh, good ... I kind of want to get to know her a little better. After all, she's such an important part of my son's life ...

[He can't blame her for that. Yukio can be difficult even after knowing him for 15 years.]

Yeah, just ask her. I doubt she'd have any reason to turn you down.

I think I will! I'll let you know if I end up taking your girlfriend out on a date, all right?

[ tease tease tease ]

[He almost makes a face at that, but after a beat he actually smirks.]

Have her back before midnight, okay?

[ Good, Good, Young One. You're learning well. ]

I'll be sure to, I promise!

[He can learn, eventually.]

I bet you will!

I'd ask what makes you so sure, but you know the little lady I'm trying to woo quite more than I do. I'll take your word for it!
