Isolation, mostly. I tried to distance myself from anyone I might get attached to. It... didn't work as well as I had hoped.

It never does. People have a way of breaking through self-imposed isolation.

I had a good run of it, until I had an unfortunate encounter with another like myself.

As a King, I'm not unique, no. There are seven of us, total. And while I'm fairly certain none of them can claim immortality, there's always a chance I'm wrong.

It was one of the Kings that forced me from the place I had retreated to for solitude, though.

I'm assuming you're not talking about the political meaning of the word.

Yes. The First and Silver King. I was the original recipient of the powers bestowed on selected individuals by an item called the Dresden Slate.

There is political nature in the name, given that Kings rule clans, and the Second and Gold King is actually the proper ruler of Japan in the current era. It would have been me, but I relinquished my power to him willingly to go in to isolation.

Not as old as I thought you were.

No, not really, but I've still lived through a world war, several others, and the changing of both the Red King and the Blue King. And I'm sure I'll see many, many more changes if I ever return home.

Where I'm from, there are plenty of people who are nearly a thousand years old.

And they don't usually look their ages either.

Just because you can live that long doesn't make you truly immortal. Though I suppose in the terms of immortality in general I am still young, yes.

I've never met any true immortals in my world, but I do know one by reputation.

He spent hundreds of years in the highest-security prison on my world because he was bored.

He's immortal. What else would he do with his time?

I could think of many other things to do as an immortal that would be far better than staying in a prison cell!
