Stop fightin’ me, bro!

[Rin’s SFC turns on to a view of somewhere in the Villa, near-ish the living room. There’s some scuffling happening off screen, as he’s trying to get Yukio in front of it. It sounds like the younger twin is doing his dead-level best to prevent that from happening, but as the brief flashes of flailing elbows grow longer and slide of socked feet against the floor grows louder, it becomes apparent that Yukio’s is a losing battle.]

Niisan! Let me go!

No!

[A losing battle, indeed. Rin is just too strong for his younger very much human brother, and soon enough both of them are in front of the SFC, panting and a little frazzled. Rin lets out a huff and forces the mess that is his bangs back out of his face, all with a terribly mischievous grin.]

HEY! I know we’re all doom and gloom right now for… reasons, but seriously you guys gotta check this out!

[Whatever Rin is doing, it’s clear it involves throwing Yukio under the proverbial bus. He turns his younger brother around forcefully, showing that Yukio has… gained a tail. Exactly like Rin’s. It’s presently lashing to and fro in an obviously agitated manner, mirroring the protests of its owner. Yukio lunges to one side, still determined to escape his brother’s grip.]

It’s not funny!

[You’re not going anywhere. Rin’s grip is way too tight.]

Lookit! It’s totally cute! Hehehehe! Cute little taaaail~

Niisan...

[Yukio growls under his breath, and the careful observer might be able to pinpoint the exact moment that he decides he is 1000% done. Rin receives no warning before his little brother lashes out, bending one long leg with every intention of planting a knee in his midsection. An attempted headbutt follows immediately after.

Rin might be stronger, but Yukio still has just a little more reach and (currently) absolutely no sense of humor. Thank Night for this one, bro.]

URGHF--!

[The noise Rin makes isn’t even remotely dignified. Yukio’s strikes hit as they’re intended to, and the half-demon goes down like a sack of bricks, collapsing off screen.

He groans loudly, lifting a hand shakily.]

Worth… it…

[Yukio wrenches himself out of Rin’s grip before the other boy can take him down with him, stumbling for a moment and reaching up to cup his forehead with one hand. As hard as the hit was (because let’s be honest, Rin defines the word “blockhead”) he’s sure to have a nasty welt there pretty soon, but he shakes off his own discomfort pretty quickly in favor of attending to more important matters. Like the camera that’s still recording.]

… Idiot.

[Two long strides close the distance between Yukio and the camera, and then the feed goes black. Sorry, folks, show’s over.]

[Hey, you're not supposed to compliment a beatdown. Heck, it wasn't even a very good one. Sloppy, and more damaging to Yukio than Rin in the long run. Glaring at Rin between his fingers.]

[Rin meets the glare from under the arm draped across his eyes, but he's still smiling in spite of Yukio's words.]

[Yeeeaaah, he's gonna be mad about that for a while, but the anger doesn't stop him from noticing Rin's big boy words. He pronounced them correctly and everything.]

[Slumping further into the cushions and gingerly prodding at his head. Yeah, that's gonna be a nasty welt.]

A sigh escapes him, and the smile fades]

All the naggin' in the world wasn't gonna change what everyone already thought of me.

[He frowns and drops his hands into his lap.]

I didn't know how to. Do you really think in all that time that I didn't actually try?

It sucked, alright? A lot. ... no, fuck that. It hurt like hell. I hated bein' alone. I hated not even bein' able to have friends because everyone was either scared of me or hated my guts.

Why do you think I finally just walked away from school and never looked back? At least at home I had you and Dad and the other priests, and I didn't have to put up with bein' surrounded by people who didn't even wanna fuckin' talk to me.

[Yukio goes quiet for a while after all that, eyes trained on the ceiling. If he could've contained his temper and just kept in line, things could've been so much different. But then again...

Without that temper, he just would've been in the same boat that Yukio was when he was younger. Nervous and afraid, but without anyone to pull him out of that hole. No stronger brother to rely on, no secret goal to focus on and build himself around.]

... It's better now, at least.

[Whether he's talking about Vatheon or home is unclear, but it doesn't really matter. Granted, Rin's not facing a death sentence in the bubble, but his personal relationships have improved greatly in both places.]

[Rin goes quiet, too, though his gaze isn't really anywhere in particular since his arm is still over his eyes, blocking out light while he waits for the rest of the pain in his head to subside.

There wasn't much either of them could say to that. It was a confession, but one that changed nothing. What was done was done and whatever their reasons were for it didn't erase the past. As Rin so often said, all the could do was move on.]

... yeah. It is.

[But their time in Vatheon might be ending soon. He had friends back home now, and he would have loved to see the ones not there again, but the price of losing the ones not from their world wasn't something he wanted to pay for it.]

[Yukio's not terribly optimistic about their chances of simply being returned home, but if he were? His family is the only loss he would really feel. No Shiro. No Night. He still has Rin at home, but it's a very different situation. A different relationship.

He sighs and let's the previous subject drop.]

... I'm sorry about your school.

[As much as True Cross is supposed to be "home", it's not a home Rin really wants to return to. The alternative isn't all that great either, but he could almost say he'd be more willing to face death in Vatheon than go back with no memory of what he'd come to be in that place.

Almost.

The subject change gets him to sit up finally, rubbing at his bruised stomach with a grimace. He's oddly quiet, though, looking away rather than at Yukio.

After a bit though, he looked up again with a clearly faked smile.]

At least I tried, right?

[Yukio stays flopped on the couch for now, as undignified as most people ever get to see him, but glances in Rin's direction.]

That's the most important part.

Yeah.

[It was upsetting, to say the least, but as hollow as that smile was for him, he can say that he got that far at all, which is an accomplishment for him.]

... want me to bring you some ice?

[It really is a shame. As much as Yukio nags at him and disapproves of his various activities, he really would've liked to see this dream succeed.]

... Yes, please.

[If certain events back home hadn't transpired the way they did, he might have eventually gotten on the path to something like that. If not a school then maybe his own business. Being older (nearly eighteen now!) certainly showed he was capable of growing up eventually.

Nothing can be done about it now, but maybe some day the idea might creep back in to his head if he ever gets tired of dealing with the Order and convinces them that letting him live his own life won't result in the world burning.]

'kay. Back in a minute.

[Fat chance, bro, but it's a nice dream. The world may have to actually burn before the Order sees reason.]
