Public Apology

[A much more composed Chosen sits in front of the SFC this morning, looking fairly reluctant but this needs to be done. Are those note cards?]

To all the men, women, aliens, and talking animals of Vatheon, I wish to humbly extend my apologies for the events of a few nights ago. It was completely out of line and I know I offended a great many of you. It won't happen again and I'd appreciate if we could just take it as a parable on the evils of alcohol and move on. If anyone still has a bone to pick with me over it, just.. respond, I guess.

Again, I sincerely ask your forgiveness for the ass I made of myself on the network and any trouble it may have caused anyone.

[He tucks the note cards away, and reaches to turn off the picture, but pauses a moment before he does.]

...Except to that white-haired guy. You're kind of a dick.

Oh c'mon! You don't have to laugh at me!

[Which she does!]

[Another moment and Zelos is laughing with her, the tension seeping out of him. As long as he hasn't freaked her out or completely disappointed her in some way, it's really not the end of the world and he can be amused right along with Mrs. Brisby.]

Ahh.. I guess I do deserve that.

I, ah hah, I hope you don't make a habit of that...

[He throws up his hands in surrender.]

I'm pretty apt at making an idiot of myself but I don't think I'll be touching alcohol again for a very long time, so don't worry.

That's good. It's good you didn't die! I've seen what rotten foods do to other animals.

[He laughs a bit.]

Well I guess that's what fermentation is, technically. Yeah, it's a poison. There's some things humans do that are bad for them but they still do it anyway. Anything like that for mice?

On purpose...? Not really, not at all. We have enough things out to kill us as it is.

I guess there's a lot more danger for folks like you out there, huh. Doesn't seem all that fair.

Hmm, life isn't fair. You just have to make do with what you have instead of wishing for what you can't have.

[Huh. He hadn't expected such an attitude from a sweet lady like Brisby, but it makes sense.]

Totally true, Brisby-hunny. Guess that's especially what we all gotta do here, right?

Yes, though this place is a lot more lenient. At home, I was able to make things work, but it was quite a bit harder.

How so? Sorry to pry, it's just hard to believe somewhere is harder than here considering the physical and emotional ringer we're put through with these curses.

I don't know how frightening it might be for someone your size, but I have to say, moving a house is quite stressful and just awful.

Moving Day is bad enough as it is.

Can't say I've ever had to move a house, but considering how big a house is I can imagine. Chin up though, you don't need to worry about that here!

[He's curious as to why she had to move an entire house but with her making a face like that he doesn't want to ask and see her sad any longer.]

[Well, it's her own house, which was a brick, but still! Proportionally that's still very unfeasible.]

You're right, it's all been set away. I'm really only worried about Timothy... he's doing much better, but when I left, he still had pneumonia.

What... what if he gets worse, again? What if, when I go back, time hasn't stopped and he's still sick? Or... or worse!

Hey, hey, calm down Mrs. Brisby, it's alright. Time's stopped, otherwise it doesn't make sense for my Bud to be here when he's from an earlier point in our journey, so I'm sure it's the same for everyone since we were all brought here the same way.

Do you want me to come over? Would company help you feel better?

No, I... I'll be fine.

[She wipes her eyes with her cape.]

I just... I'd be so beside myself, if anything happened to them and I wasn't there...

[He's a little jealous. She so obviously loves her children dearly. They're lucky to have her. His voice is quiet when he speaks again.]

It's just fine, Mrs. Bris. Like I said, time's really not passing so you have nothing to worry about, okay? Trust me.

...What happens if I die here? Do I go back, anyway, or... or am I dead?

[This one he actually knows, though he sort of wishes he didn't.]

If we die here, we get brought back in about five days. I really wouldn't worry about it, Hunny. I sweetheart like you's got no business thinking dark thoughts like that.

I mean... if I die naturally. Because of old age. That's never happened, here...

No one really seems to be aging, to be honest. I think the coral might keep us in some kind of stasis or time flux or something. After all, we wouldn't be horribly useful to it if we died, and if it intends to send us back like it's done others, it wouldn't make sense if we popped back all old and wrinkled when we supposedly weren't gone at all, right?

[He may have actually given this some thought on his own.]

I... I suppose... these are still things that are so troubling...

I know, and they're all perfectly valid things to be worried about of course, but the way I see it is whoever or whatever dragged us here might be doing these curse things, but other than that it takes pretty good care of us. It wouldn't be in its best interest to let anything happen, including old age, so cheer up.

[He smiles softly, comfortingly.]

Everything's going to be fine, including Timothy.
