[dream] // [video] - How The Lion Got His Scar and Other Stories

[Squall's dream starts out with him (minus his infamous scar) dueling a blond man wearing a trench coat, both of them holding Gunblades. After clashing a few times, the blond man gets in a hit, slicing Squall diagonally across the face. This is clearly the injury that would later become his scar. Through the pain and the blood, Squall swings the Revolver upward, giving the man a mirror image of the wound. Everything fades to black.

Fireworks explode into the darkness and a ballroom comes into view. Squall, wearing the SeeD uniform, is standing off to the side and watching the festivities. Rinoa Heartilly, clad in a beautiful evening dress, approaches him and drags him over to the dance floor. But the scenery changes and instead of a ballroom, they're dancing on top of a train. One with an extraordinarily shoddy paint job. Squall Leonhart does not dance, and the dance goes embarrassingly badly due to his awkwardness. When the dance is finished, the train car they're standing on is disconnected and fades into the distance as the train pulls further and further away, apparently unaware of its missing car.

Next, Squall's voice is heard.]

What's that nasty looking feather?

[Squall stands in a completely different scene, staring at a Chocobo feather in his hand. The feather suddenly turns into a crystal and then the image of a beautiful woman appears. She has blonde hair and is wearing an elegant white dress outlined with gold patterns. Why, one would say she looks like a goddess of some kind. But the woman then turns into a completely different one, a witch wearing an ornate headdress and a purple dress with a plunging neckline. She conjures up a massive javelin of ice and sends it at Squall. It hits its target, running him through.

And then suddenly Squall is Laguna Loire.

Dammit.]

[Squall wakes up and glares at the Dreamberry.

This is why Squall has come to hate dreams.]

ahem. His own dream had been pretty nonsensical but at least some of the elements had some wishy washy truth to them. Perhaps that was the same for Squall?]

Is there a relationship between you and Laguna?

But aren't children supposed to share family traits? Just thinking about Squall and Laguna... he wouldn't have been able to tell they were father and son from their appearance or actions.]

[Oh man, Rinoa doesn't even know where to start with this one. But two things immediately come to her attention when the dream is over.]

I was wondering how you got that scar.

And was that... Laguna?

[She didn't even realize he was from their world, let alone Squall knowing him. Of course, they could have just met here at some point, but...]

I got it in a practice duel with Seifer.

[If she was expecting something more dramatic, whup, too bad.]

And yeah, that was him.

I can see that. [It looked painful at the very least.] He shouldn't have done that to you. I knew Seifer was never much of a "play by the rules" type, but that's going overboard.

I didn't know you two knew each other.

Seifer always took our rivalry a little too seriously.

[And Squall didn't take their rivalry seriously at all. In fact, the only reason they were rivals is because Seifer decided that for them.

He's also going to ignore talking about Laguna beyond this point because HOW DOES HE EXPLAIN LAGUNA!?]

[Her brow puckers when he remains quiet. A growing, nagging feeling she's had is now becoming full blown suspicion.]

...How did you know Laguna? You met him before, right?

They're all memories. If someone took them all and mashed them together to make a bunch of nonsense.

Oh, I don't know. It made quite a bit of sense to me, even if it might have skipped a few memories.

[The duel is actually kind of entertaining to watch; like an action movie, made even cooler possibly by the fact that she recognizes one of the people involved.

...This guy's one of the people who stepped up to help Minato with the Defense Force. She never has have a chance to talk with him yet.]

That was a Chocobo's feather, wasn't it?

[She can't quite parse the scene that follows with the goddess and Laguna (whose face she also recognizes!), but--

Chocobos exist in other worlds, too. That one was given to me by a guy who came from another world.
