This Must Be a Thing Now!

This is the second time I've been turned into a human this season. I wonder if this is supposed to be a regular thing for me, now... it's still quite a strange thing.

Well, I... suppose I could help anyone who's been turned into a mouse. It's happened a few times before, but I'm sure someone different has become a mouse this time.

A horse. I've seen that every now and then... I was something called a... a "Lusus", once. That was how I met Gamzee.

Oh, one of the Troll's crazy sprit animal parents? I don't think I'll ever understand Troll culture, but it does sound like some of those lusii do a better job than a lot of Human parents, if you ask me.

[How does he always manage to get on the topic of parents with Brisby? He'll never know.]

Really? Are humans such poor parents? Why, the farmers seem to take well enough care of their son...

Not all Humans. I mean, sure, some are gonna be awful, but I guess as long as the parents put their kids first then it's fine.

[Otherwise they just shouldn't have any...]

How dreadful. I know there are poor parents in the field, but in those cases... it's difficult to put your children's survival in front of your own. But for me, it's also impossible for me to think of a life without my children.

...Well, without them alive and happy.

[She... sighs, a bit sadly, rubbing her temples. After so long being stuck in Vatheon, she feared she'd never see them again...]

I suppose there's nothing I can do but worry, and hope that they really aren't alone at home without any parents to guide them.

...you're a good mother, Brisby. And there's plenty of people who've gone home and shown up right when they've left. I've got it on good authority.

[Because if you can't trust Colette, who can you trust?

He puts a hand on hers gently in comfort and smiles.]

No need to fret.

I know, I trust you, Zelos. It's just very hard not to worry, as a mother, I suppose...

[She laughs a bit nervously.]

Our conversations always end up so grim, but you're always very supportive. I appreciate it. I really do!

Ah, well, I can't just leave you hanging, y'know? What ind of friend would I be if I did that?

[Oh gosh stoppit Brisby he's actually pretty terrible, but you're the last person he wants ever finding that out.

Good goddess, did she actually say trust? He'll just.. try not to feel ill at that...]

[For all her lack of education, Mrs. Brisby is pretty sharp! She catches something amiss in Zelos' looks.]

...Is something the matter, Zelos?

No! Not at all! You're just right that things get too serious so don't worry your pretty little head, okay? Just let me get this soup on and relax.

[The redhead pops himself up from he table to tend to the soup on the stove, stirring and adding a few more vegetables and spices, stalling in order to get himself together.

There is no way in hell he's going to ruin Brisby with his issues. No way.]

[Zelos. Zelos. She's wise to antics like that! And she frowns, as Zelos wanders off, and she'll sip at her tea worriedly. You are not easing her fears, bub!]

[There is no way he's talking about it, sorry Miss Bris! Instead he starts to whistle as he stirs the pot, not any kind of real tune but it's melodic enough to be soothing in its own way.]

Almost done~♪

[Soothing, maybe, but her worries can only be calmed so much. She's quite good at worrying, after all! She's had a lot of practice.]

Ah... alright.

[It takes another few minutes but soon two steaming bowls of soup are brought to the table. Zelos sets one in front of Brisby and his own at the empty space, going back to the kitchen to grab a glasses of water for the both of them before sitting down again. After all, hot tea isn't very good with an equally hot meal.]

How's that?

[Mrs. Brisby offers him a small smile, though she can't even remotely hide how her mind is on something else.]

It's lovely, thank you. You really didn't have to go this far for me...

Nah, but I wanted to! You deserve a good time every once in awhile, right?

[By the look on her face he's not out of the woods yet as far as her concern but maybe if he just flatters his way out of it...]

[Mrs. Brisby... sighs. She'll drop it for now, because it's not her business, but she can't wipe the worry off of her expression.]

Thank you, again. Though I'll have to find a way to repay you...

Nah, don't worry about that. I live to put smiles on hunnies faces after all, that's repayment enough~

I suppose...

[She'll take a sip of the soup, at least.

Wow, that does taste exactly like what she had in the restaurant!]

Oh! That's wonderful.

Glad you like it. Took me a bit to figure out the secret spices since the chef at the restaurant wouldn't tell me but I got it eventually.

[He's just not going to mention that it took him a really long time thanks to his sense of taste being dulled by his crystal.]

Well, whatever the case, this tastes even better than last time. Thank you.

[For once, he doesn't pick up on it. She's really one of the very few women in his life he absolutely does not think of that way.]

You're very welcome, Brisby-hunny~ And y'know, a chef's like an artist; only as good as his inspiration.

[He winks at her to get across that she, of course, is said inspiration.

Just because he doesn't think of her like that doesn't stop him from sounding flirtatious. But that's just Zelos.]

[Ohhhh Zelos, what a hole you're digging yourself...]

Well, I'm flattered to be an inspiration, I truly am.

[Phew, there's a smile~ Zelos grins at her words and tucks into his soup. He blows on it a little first, out of habit, and takes a small drink of water after almost every bite. Oh the perils of not being able to feel temperature. He's got to be careful! He could burn himself and not know until later.]

So what have you been up to besides transforming into pretty humans, hm?

[She's stirring hers, some, to let the heat out before she eats it. She had just put her spoon in her mouth before he called her pretty - at which point she grabbed for her napkin, coughing in surprise.]

O-oh, well... I... n-not an awful lot, I don't do very much. I'm v-very boring...
