[The video isn't his fault. His SFC falls onto the floor and starts recording. There's only a flash of an orange wing and some orange ghost tail before...nothing. Just blue sky up on the island.

There's a long pause, as if the person is in a state of disbelief.]

Shit.

[He says this almost conversationally before an orange hand with deadly-looking nails reaches down, and turns off the feed.

A few hours later, the following messages are made:]

[He's uncharacteristically curt about this.]

there was a reason i went back in time to become a sprite
it was the only way i could set the timeline right
see when a timeline is screwed up to a point in which key players die or are trapped in limbo its called a doomed timeline
i come from a doomed timeline that got trapped in limbo
i went back in time to stop john from dying which would lead to jades death
the only other person alive in my branch was rose
another downside to going back in time is that when you do that and fix the timeline it basically erases the offshoot
anyone in the doomed timeline would cease to exist
im the only one left from mine
everyone else got erased but rose and i had discussed it before
wed accepted that as a consequence

[There's a few seconds worth of hesitation, though.]

because im not really the same person they know and theyre not exactly the same people i know

Oh Davesprite.

She doesn't answer right away, because she has to take a moment to process that. Thankfully she knows enough about sci-fi and terrible shoujo manga to at least get a grasp of the kind of drama Davesprite is talking about here.

And even when she does get it, she still has to think of how to respond. Because this isn't an easy topic to talk about.]

I won't say I can understand what it's like, because there's no way anyone could understand something like that unless they've lived it.
But just remember that you're not alone, ok?
Even if you're the only one left from your timeline, you've got friends here in this timeline who care about you.

[...And that's something Davesprite can't refute. He does have friends in Vatheon, most importantly friends outside of his universe. Those people don't have to suffer the consequences SBURB can dish out.

The people in his universe, on the other hand, do suffer those consequences and it's best for them to not get too attached to Davesprite. Not when he has no idea what his fate will be at the end of the game. Maybe he'll die before then. Maybe he'll cease to exist at the end. Davesprite doesn't know, and he's not sure he wants to just yet.]

out of everyone in vatheon youre probably the second person who knows outside of my universe

[And it's just really nice to know that there are two people he can trust with this knowledge about himself. They both have his back and Davesprite's extremely grateful for that.]

It's a really complicated story too.
I didn't even get into the whole 'sentient masks' part, or the prediction enforcers.

Let's start with the prediction enforcers, they're the easiest to explain.
Some people, when they get a vision about the future, they decide that they have to make sure that future happens, even if it is a bad future.

do they believe that its good for the future to stay that way or do they believe that you cant or shouldnt change it

I'm not sure, I only ever met one, and he wasn't exactly a sane person anyway.
But if I had to guess, it's probably that they thought the future shouldn't change.

All actions have consequences, so maybe they think that the future they see is the one with the least consequences or something.

[It was something she had wondered about herself, up until she found out about the Cassandra Mask.]

Basically, there was this mask that gave its wearer really destructive powers at the cost of that person's lifespan.
But using the powers of the mask counted as 'altering the future', and anytime anyone would die because of that altered future it gave me visions of the death.
I'm not sure if that's the only reason I ever got visions, but it was the reason for a lot of them.

[Davesprite thinks about that one.]

if a person dies because of some all powerful mask then thats a pretty good reason to get a vision about it
how does it even get someone to buy into that

I don't know, I never really had the chance to talk to anyone who made that deal.
When we found the mask, we were wrapped up in sealing its powers so that nobody could use it anymore.

[Granted, if his friends were in trouble and they might not be able to handle the trouble, then Davesprite will probably take it.]

Don't even joke about that it would be horrifying if the Cassandra mask showed up here.
It's easily the worst thing I've ever encountered.
Half the city would be blown up before we even knew what was going on.

i dont want it to show up either but i wouldnt put it passed vatheon to find a way to bring something like that here
granted theres only so much you can prepare for
so if it happens then well cross that bridge when we stumble onto it

or are we doing a role reversal and i get to be the magical girl
as long as i get to wear a skimpy outfit and get a kickass transformation sequence im good

Nah, there's no way I'm the magical girl.
But if you're one then I'm not sure there's much we can do about a transformation sequence.
But you could still get a costume to wear.
