If you didn't get one of the big prizes at the festival yet--

[It's nighttime when the camera adjusts toward one side of the room where there are several stuffed sharks, stars, and turtles in a big pile. Upon closer inspection, however, you'll be able to see that this isn't one of the regular bedrooms in the dome, but a practically bleach white hospital room.]

[... He doesn't sound as enthusiastic as he could be about that, however. But, really, if you want one of these things, by all means just come back and get it. There's a brief blur of Axel's face which doesn't stay long enough for anyone to really get a good look at him, but just in case, he's definitely got a split lip and a gauze bandage over his right temple. There's some more shifting when his door opens and one of the happiest looking nurses in the world comes in to check on him.]

[Roxas has spent the day enjoying the festival, and although he'd like to be there with Axel, he isn't concerned about not seeing him around. But later, after he gets home and finds himself alone in the apartment, he checks the network and finds out maybe he should have been worried all along.

He doesn't bother with seeing if the nurses will let him in at this hour. He just portals directly into Axel's room. He steps out, letting it close behind him as he looks his friend over.]

...you look terrible.

[Some time after running into Roxas, Axel tried his hand at a few more games then eventually ran into Saix again, which is why he's not looking so good right now. It's nothing serious and certainly nothing that he can't handle, but it is a pain in the ass to have to deal with.

He's lying down on his bed when he hears the Portal open and, already suspecting who this could be, he sits up and tries to look as presentable and casual as possible. His coat has been taken off and draped over the seat to this left so that it doesn't constrict the cast he currently has wrapped around most of his right hand and wrist.

Scoffing, Axel grins.]

Nice to see you too.

What happened? Is your hand gonna be okay?

[He already has his suspicions as to whose fault this is, which is why he's still frowning in spite of Axel's casual greeting.]

Oh, this?

[He glances briefly at his hand then laughs.]

Yeah, yeah. It's just a little thing. Give it a couple weeks and it'll be back to normal.

[A couple weeks? That doesn't sound so little.]

You didn't say how it happened.

[He could lie... but then that would be really obvious. And it doesn't look like Roxas would buy it anyway. So with a sigh he flops down backwards to rest against the pile of newly fluffed pillows behind him.]

Take a guess.

[Well, that confirms it.]

...I told you to call me.

I was doing fine.

[He shrugs.]

... Really. It wasn't anything I couldn't handle on my own.

And that's why you're in the clinic with a broken hand?

At least I'm not on the ground two seconds from death.

There is, too. You got attacked, and now you- don't even have two hands to fight with! Were you gonna 'handle' it if he showed up again?

[Axel knows better than to expect that Saix will just attack him when he sees him. In fact, the only reason he's here right now is because he antagonized him and gave him a reason to beat him up in the first place. ... But admitting to that is too hard.]

I can handle it just fine, Roxas.

[Instead of replying, Roxas walks to the chair beside Axel's bed and sits himself down with the decisiveness of someone who has no intention of ever moving. And then he just looks at Axel.]

[What're you looking at.

He just... stays silent and stares at his lap as if there's something super interesting about it. Look, what else do you want him to say?]

[The awkward will continue a while longer until Roxas finally caves.]

...I don't- like that my friend got hurt and I didn't even know about it.

If you did like it, then I'd think there was something wrong with you.

[An awkward laugh]

I'm s'posed to be there for you.

[Just. For certain things he doesn't want Roxas getting involved. He could get hurt.]

Yeah, too late to be any use.

[... Did that sound awkward? It probably sounded awkward. Axel keeps looking away, then.]

[Roxas doesn't think it sounded awkward so he's confused why Axel's acting like it was. Maybe he has a point. He can't change that he wasn't there earlier anyway.]

...how long do you have to stay here? Can we go home?

They wanna keep me here overnight at least. After that it'll be a couple of weeks before I can come back and get this stupid thing off.

[said as he glances down to look at his cast.]

Maybe I should get the chocobos.
