Action / video

[Action (closed to Zelda)]

[Link starts awake, and finds himself somewhere... unexpected.]

[The sky above, blue and wavering with light filtering down dimly, reminds him of nothing so much as the Chamber of the Sages - and with an almost physical shock, he concludes that he must be in the Sacred Realm.]

[Then... he really did fail.]

[But if this is an afterlife of sorts, then why are his clothes still torned and bloodied and soaking wet from the rain? The sword is still nearby, and the battered shield - the bow's string is still broken, the quiver is still empty. Setting a hand on his chest, he finds ridges of scar tissue - the injuries that he had succumbed to, now looking as if he had spent a good month or so recovering.]

[And what exactly is that... thing in the middle of the plaza he's now lying in?]

[Some time later, dried off, clothed, and settled at the Welcome Center, Link is finally ready to say hello to his fellow foreigners. The tattoo on the back of his left hand gets an uncomfortable look, and the StarFish Communicator (green, naturally) gets switched on.]

...Hi. Zelda said that I can use this to talk to everyone here, so I guess I should say hi to everyone. [He gives a sheepish little smile.]

I'm Link - or one of them, I guess, Zelda said my ancestor is here. [He does look rather bemused at that.]

Um... I guess that's all. [And off it goes.]

So you can't even see them until they come out? Oh man, that sounds like a pain.

I think that makes it official. Being in the desert sucks, no matter what world you're in.

Tell me about it.

[Lloyd has almost no fond memories of those trips through the Triet desert.

At Link's question, he shakes his head.]

Not that I've seen yet. It'd be really weird if there was a desert underwater, but I guess anything's possible here. There's a forest, though, and a pirate ship!

Just, uh, be careful about that ship. I'm pretty sure there're ghosts.

I'm not sure what a Poe is, but I mean ghosts like monsters that you almost can't hit because half the time your sword goes right through them. Some people say they're made from the spirits of people who died and want to come back for revenge.

[Okay, he's not even trying to tell a scary story, and he's still giving himself the creeps. Forests! Yes, forests! That's a much safer thing to talk about.]

Hey, so did I! The forest I grew up in isn't exactly the same as the one that's here, but it's pretty close. There's even a lot of the same animals!

[Well, Lloyd has better luck when he uses mana with his attacks, but there's a reason why magic is usually more effective against ghosts than physical weapons are. Ghosts can't phase through magic. Lloyd actually doesn't know how similar the ghosts in Vatheon are to the ones that he knows, but he's particularly inclined to experiment and find out for himself.

Besides, the topic's completely switched.]

Deer, squirrels, birds, bugs, that sort of thing. I haven't seen anything dangerous there yet, but I might have just gotten lucky. I think some people live there, too.

[No deer or squirrels? For a moment, that takes Lloyd by surprise. But, then, different worlds would probably have different creatures - just like Link's desert has leevers! - so maybe that's not so surprising.]

Deer kind of look like horses - um, you know what horses are, right? - only they've got skinnier legs and you can't ride them, and male deer have horns like tree branches. They're really good for eating, and their skin makes pretty good leather. Squirrels look a little like rats that climb trees, and they've got really fuzzy tails. I wouldn't eat them unless you were desperate. They're not really worth the effort.

[All the important details, from one woodsman to another.]

I've seen a few houses, but I don't know if there are any that are empty. I already have an apartment that I like, and it's close to my friends, so I haven't really been looking for that. Someone else might know, though. You could ask around!

Your own horse, huh? I bet that's really handy, especially if you travel a lot.

[Lloyd thinks about that for a moment.]

Yeah, I think I get what you mean. I've gotten used to sleeping in different places, though, so it doesn't bother me, and like I said, I'm close to my friends.

[But that doesn't necessarily help Link at all.]

Have you thought about building your own place?

[The way Link speaks about Epona sounds like the way he is with his dog, Noishe. Yeah, a really good friend.]

Oh, yeah, you can definitely get wood from the shops! I've been thinking about building a boat, so I've been asking around. You can also get things like bricks and stones and mortar mix - probably anything you need to build a house!
redcladidealist: (First of all...)

I can't blame you there. I eat out almost all the time, too. Not that I'm that bad at cooking, but it's easier if someone else does the cooking - and the dishes, too!

Let me know if you need any help. I've done some carpentry before. I wouldn't mind lending a hand.

[Lloyd smiles understandingly, then shakes his head, trying to make Link feel better.]

You can't be as bad as my Professor. She can make anything taste bad.

[Yeah, uh, Lloyd will be just as happy to pass on any offers of roasted leever on a stick.]

Great! Just give me a heads up when you've decided what you want and where you want to make it!

[Shhh shhh, don't tempt the great Lamufao!]

Of course. Hey, even if you find someplace in the city, maybe we can still meet up sometime. It sounds like we might be a lot alike. It'd be fun!

You already named one of them. There's plenty of exploring to do! I also like to collect stuff for my arts and crafts, and sometimes I'll work on that. There's a carnival, and you can also play on the beach if you go to the island above us. Then there's working on my plans for a boat, and making sure I practice with my swords, but that stuff's more for me than anyone else, unless someone wants to spar.

[Lloyd brightens visibly.]

Yeah! That'd be great! You're right, you never know what might happen here. I definitely want to be prepared.

[Hey, carving on a tree is totally a craft, at least as far as Lloyd's concerned!]

Well, I'm pretty good at working with wood and carving things, and my Dad taught me a lot about working as a smith. I'll never be as good as a dwarf, but I can make smaller things, like necklaces and little sculptures. I might sell some of it to make some extra money, just in case there's things I want to buy in the Nook.
