[Link starts awake, and finds himself somewhere... unexpected.]

[The sky above, blue and wavering with light filtering down dimly, reminds him of nothing so much as the Chamber of the Sages - and with an almost physical shock, he concludes that he must be in the Sacred Realm.]

[Then... he really did fail.]

[But if this is an afterlife of sorts, then why are his clothes still torned and bloodied and soaking wet from the rain? The sword is still nearby, and the battered shield - the bow's string is still broken, the quiver is still empty. Setting a hand on his chest, he finds ridges of scar tissue - the injuries that he had succumbed to, now looking as if he had spent a good month or so recovering.]

[And what exactly is that... thing in the middle of the plaza he's now lying in?]

[Some time later, dried off, clothed, and settled at the Welcome Center, Link is finally ready to say hello to his fellow foreigners. The tattoo on the back of his left hand gets an uncomfortable look, and the StarFish Communicator (green, naturally) gets switched on.]

...Hi. Zelda said that I can use this to talk to everyone here, so I guess I should say hi to everyone. [He gives a sheepish little smile.]

I'm Link - or one of them, I guess, Zelda said my ancestor is here. [He does look rather bemused at that.]

Um... I guess that's all. [And off it goes.]

[Zelda's been feeling off ever since the arrival of the "first" Link, as she's come to think of him. She's hardly spoken to any of her friends at all, and other than sleeping (and even that only for the past couple days), she hasn't been home. She certainly hasn't been keeping up on who is arriving and who isn't, though usually she makes it a point to greet as many of the new arrivals as possible.

Yet today... today she feels like she needs to be in the plaza. She's sitting by the Welcome Center and watching the coral quietly when Link appears. For the few seconds, she can only stare. Link. It's Link. After that her mind processes the bloodstains and the tears on his tunic. Moments later she's by his side, looking frantic.]

[...Zelda is here?]

[No. This absolutely isn't fair. Isn't it bad enough that Ganon claimed his life? What would happen to Hyrule, if Zelda is gone too?]

[He couldn't protect her, and his devestation shows on his face.]

...Princess Zelda? You're - here too?

[Her hands are where his wound was almost instantly, ready to call on healing magic if he requires it. It doesn't take her long to notice that there's scar tissue there. But how can that be? The blood on his tunic is still wet... she looks up at the Lamufao thankfully before running her hand over the scar a couple times to make sure it's been healed satisfactorily. Finally, she answers.]

You don't know where this is, do you? This is Vatheon. Come, I'll explain everything, let's get you cleaned up.

[He almost flinches when she reaches for the scar decorating his torso, but otherwise bears her touch. Wouldn't she have known about it, though? She was there, holding his hand, when he had...]

Vatheon? [That's definitely a bewildered look, but he carefully gets to his feet (no pain? That's a plus, at least), gathering up his sword and shield, the broken bow, and the empty quiver. The ocarina, at least, seems safe - a comforting weight on a pouch on his belt.] I thought this was... [He ducks his head.] The Sacred Realm.

Well - Zelda said that my ancestor is here, and he looks a lot like me and is also called Link. We might need nicknames.

[For once, Serph is going to introduce himself at the beginning of a conversation.]

My name is Serph.

[This is Zelda's 'prince'? Well he's sure she's taking care of him, so...]

What is an ancestor?

I think an ancestor is someone in your family who came before you. Like your mother and father, or their mother and father.

[...He thinks. He's only new to this whole 'family' concept.]

Does that mean your mother or father is here?

[Zelda's been on his mind off and on ever since his last conversation with Zelos, so Link's mention of her catches Lloyd's attention. What catches his curiosity, though, is...]

Your ancestor? You mean your grandpa's here?

Well... not really, Zelda said he was from hundreds of years ago. But it's kind of weird.

Whoa. I didn't realize people could be here from that far back in time! That would be pretty weird.

Wait, if he's from that long ago, how does Zelda know you're related?

[...Whoa. Those horns are getting an extremely dubious look.] Okay, I guess. It'd be nice to meet family.

[Oh gosh, did you mean beautiful? Entrancing? Oh of course you did.]

Family? You mean those ancestors then? How are they related to you?

[It's him.

It's really him, this time. Not another version but the very same Link that was his template, that he was supposed to dispatch for his master and for his own place in the world, his right to exist.

Orders and commands woven into the spell that make up his being begin to function, waking up from dormancy to spur him to act, to find him, to kill him, to make his master proud, to fulfill his purpose.

He doesn't want to. He doesn't want to hurt anyone, to kill anyone, much less the person he most emulates and admires. They're one in the same, they're brothers of the same stock, but his free thought is drowned out by Ganon's voice, remembered from a world away but still clear as day. Kill him and take his place. Become more than just a shadow.

He turns off the SFC without a word. He has to prepare.]

[This is even more eerie than when he had met Sola. This Link's hair is angled differently and it's a much brighter color than his own. The ears are just longer, the face just a slightly different shape... but they look so much alike.

He's just going to stare for a moment, unsure of what exactly to say.]

[...Whoa. Okay, that makes two of them staring - this has to be his ancestor, right?]

[After a moment, he'll finally venture,] ...Hi.

I'm Link, your, uh... ancestor, I guess? Or you're my reincarnation. Or maybe both.

[Link gives him a sheepish grin. This is...strange, to say the least.]

[Tsubaki says the name rather absent-mindedly as the video feed turns on. Though she is actually a bit more interested in the other name he's mentioned...]

Then, Zelda has explained everything?

I take it she is...a friend.
