[Link starts awake, and finds himself somewhere... unexpected.]

[The sky above, blue and wavering with light filtering down dimly, reminds him of nothing so much as the Chamber of the Sages - and with an almost physical shock, he concludes that he must be in the Sacred Realm.]

[Then... he really did fail.]

[But if this is an afterlife of sorts, then why are his clothes still torned and bloodied and soaking wet from the rain? The sword is still nearby, and the battered shield - the bow's string is still broken, the quiver is still empty. Setting a hand on his chest, he finds ridges of scar tissue - the injuries that he had succumbed to, now looking as if he had spent a good month or so recovering.]

[And what exactly is that... thing in the middle of the plaza he's now lying in?]

[Some time later, dried off, clothed, and settled at the Welcome Center, Link is finally ready to say hello to his fellow foreigners. The tattoo on the back of his left hand gets an uncomfortable look, and the StarFish Communicator (green, naturally) gets switched on.]

...Hi. Zelda said that I can use this to talk to everyone here, so I guess I should say hi to everyone. [He gives a sheepish little smile.]

I'm Link - or one of them, I guess, Zelda said my ancestor is here. [He does look rather bemused at that.]

Um... I guess that's all. [And off it goes.]

[The first spells seem pretty basic to Serph. But the last one...]

Well, it's not really going from place to place - it sets up a place that you return to when you do the second half of the spell. Do you think it'll work?

[Serph considers that for a moment.]

Perhaps. [It's not like they'll know without trying.] Set your spell here and you can find out when you're ready to leave the beach.

I guess we can try, huh? [Link takes a breath, eyes closing as he focuses on the magic. Then, with a shout, he does some silly-looking posing raises his hands in the air, briefly surrounded by a flash of green magic. When he's done, a faintly glowing green orb hovers above his head.]

Oh... I guess it worked!


((OOC: They're still within Vatheon, right? And not the island?))

[Serph watches curiously, not finding the posing silly at all; he knows a guy who casts spells by splitting his head in half. He gives Link a nod of approval before focusing on the green orb.]

So the orb marks the location you will be transported to?


[ooc: Yeah, they're still in the underwater city. Serph means, after they've gone to the beach, Link can try leaving via the spell when he's ready to go. Sorry for not being clear on that!]

Uh huh. When I do the second half, I land right under it. I used it a lot when I was in temples that were really confusing to get through. [Hi, Water Temple.]

[Ugh, Serph can empathise with temples that have confusing layouts. He gives a nod in acknowledgement of the information, before he starts in the direction of the elevator again.

Temples? Plural?]

What purpose does having multiple temples serve?

[And following after him, glancing back once at the glowing green orb.]

Well... I guess there's one for each race. Like the Zoras have the Water Temple and the Gorons have the Fire Temple - [When they're not imprisoned in it, anyway - ] and... well, I guess the Kokiri never really went to the Forest Temple. Except for Saria.

Which race are you?

[Obviously not a Zora, based on what Zelda had shown him.]

Me? [Not a Kokiri any more.] I'm a Hylian - me and Zelda both are. I don't think we have a temple... unless you count the Temple of Time, but there's no monsters in there.

[Rauru had been the Sage of Light, though, not the Sage of Time. Did that mean there was a Temple of Light somewhere?]

[Hmm?]

Why were there monsters?

[Aren't temples supposed to be a place of ceasefire? The place where law was handed down?]

A very bad person took over. [Definitely looking pensive, now.] And all of Hyrule filled with monsters. There used to be really big ones which kind of ran each temple before I stopped them.

[bufudine]

[A bad person, huh? He's very curious about this; he's seen Zelda's vision of what had happened, but it seemed like she feels responsible for the decline. He wants to know a little more about this 'bad person'; were they the green-skinned man he'd seen in Zelda's thoughts some weeks ago?

However, by this time, they've neared the elevator to the surface and the Station Master's cottage. So Serph stops and gestures towards the elevator.]

This will take us to the surface. [He gestures towards the cottage.] It won't work without the Station Master who resides in that building.

[If there's no questions regarding that, Serph will lope off and return with the Station Master.]

Okay. [No questions here. Link is going to take the opportunity to look around, maybe poking at a few things here and there.]

[...Hopefully he doesn't break anything.]

[bufudine]

[Well hopefully Link hasn't broken anything in that short time between Serph leaving and returning with the Station Master. The local is a cheerful kind of guy who steps into the elevator first.

Serph waits for Link, gesturing towards the elevator's open doors as if to say "after you."]

[Nope, everything is intact! Link gives the local a smile as he steps inside, glancing around at the inside of the little box.]

[Kind of like the elevator in the Forest Temple, huh...]

How does it work? Is it magic?

[Serph looks up, as if he can see through the ceiling of the elevator. He doesn't know the exact answer; he hadn't been in Vatheon when it was made.]

It's likely.

[He turns his attention back to Link.]

The elevators of my world were mechanical and require cables between destinations. There are none for this elevator as far as I can tell.

Oh... it might be like the one in the Forest Temple, then. That used magic. And I think some of the platforms in Dodongo's Cavern used fire. [He pulls a face at a memory.] Although I'm not sure how the ones in Jabu Jabu's belly worked...

[The ickiest adventure of them all.]

[Serph nods, though he has no idea what he's supposed to be imagining for the cavern and belly. Well, there isn't too much time to dwell on that; the elevator comes to a shuddering halt before its doors open. Serph gives a nod to the Station Master and steps aside, allowing Link to exit first.

Welcome to the beach, Link.]

[And they're here! Link steps out, takes a few steps -]

[And stops, staring, wide-eyed.]

[Hyrule Field, the first time he stepped out of the confines of the forest, had seemed enormous. The desert had seemed even bigger, the mountains that fringed it faint and hidden by the sand.]

[But there are clear skies around (clear cold skies, and he wraps his arms around himself distractedly), and in front of him is water as far as the eye can see.]

[...You'll have to give him a moment, he's lost for words right now.]

[...heh. That's alright. Serph had the exact same reaction, when he'd first seen the beach. It was exactly like the Nirvana he imagined. Beautiful.

He, too, steps out of the elevator, leaving the Station Master to return the elevator to its usual place under the sea.

Serph never gets tired of the island and stands silently beside Link, breathing in the cool, ocean air and drinking in the sight of blue sky. This taste of Nirvana. He'll reach the real one, soon enough.]

[Once Link is over his little Moment, he turns to Serph, an expression of wonder still on his face.] Sorry - I've never seen anything like it. It's a lot bigger than Lake Hylia.

[To say the least.]

[Serph nods. He understands. There's nothing like this in his world. But speaking of which, he tilts his head, confused.]

What is Lake Hylia?

[Seriously, what's a lake?]

It's the big lake down in the southwest of Hyrule. It's pretty big, but nothing like this!

[Yeah, didn't... get the other question there.]

[Well, Serph is okay with clarifying! He shakes his head to indicate that wasn't what he meant.]
