Ah... I seem to have gotten a handle on this device... I think...

[Ioder peers closely at the SFC in his hand, head tilting slightly to the side thoughtfully. For all his confusion, he looks slightly bemused. His first couple of weeks in Vatheon have been... interesting, to say the least.]

My cousin, Estellise, informed me that I should make an introduction here. My name is Ioder and-- I've never kissed anyone, not in the 18 years I've been alive--

[The bemused expression is gone in a flash, replaced by wide green eyes and hands over his mouth, voice coming out muffled behind them]

O... oh... so this is that curse-- Sometimes when I'm alone, I sing silly songs to myself to pass the time, because days in the palace were just that lonely--

[His hands clench tighter, eyes closing. Eventually he manages enough composure to reach forward...]

Perhaps I should do this another time...

[and turn the device off before it gets any worse]

[she smiles back. She can guess from this point on, though she won't jump to conclusions just yet.]

I should apologize. You see, I'm curious to know about foreign rulers. I was wondering if you were among their numbers.

Oh, I see.

[well he can't deny some one curiosity, that's for sure.]

I'm emperor, actually, though that was a recent development.

What a coincidence. The man recently inaugurated as Emperor in my world is your age and shares similar features.

[then she laughs once -- just once, of the breathy and short variety.]

I should introduce myself. I'm Shelly Greenhill, Head Senator of the Turemilian Republic.

Ah, I see! That is a coincidence, isn't it?

[and a bit of an odd one, but it's not like blonde hair and green eyes are uncommon in his world, and probably not others either.

He bows as much as he can to the video feed, offering her a smile]

Ioder Aligos Heurassein, Emperor of Ilycci. A pleasure to meet you, Miss Greenhill.

My . . . and he has such excellent manners. The Emperor could use a lesson, though I suppose that's unnecessary at this point.

[she pauses, then nods as a way of returning his bow.]

You'll have to excuse me. A pleasure, Emperor Ioder -- unless you'd rather that I drop the formalities here?

[Ioder just chuckles quietly. At least some of these things are amusing, even if the curse itself is terribly annoying.]

I'm having the same problem, as you can see.

I'll leave that entirely up to you. There are days I do wish people didn't put so much stock in titles, though.

Oh... there I go again. [and this time a sigh and a shake of his head]

[her smile widens -- or is it a grin?]

Ioder, then. In return, I ask that you refer to me as just Shelly. Formalities can become suffocating after a while . . . and titles have no place in Vatheon.

Oh, that's actually a good thing to know... I wasn't entirely sure. The only person that's from my world here also happens to be my dear cousin, so formalities are rather lost on us anyway.

Your cousin . . . Estellise, was it? And there's no need to thank me. Such is the way this city functions -- the natives know nothing of our countries, so there isn't anything for them to act on.

Yes, Estellise Heurassein. She's also my vice-emperor, but as you've pointed out that's a rather pointless set of words here and not much more.

Yes . . . status aside, it must be nice to be with family, especially in a place like this.

It is. I always enjoy Estellise's company.
