[The date is circled in Guy's personal journal. But he hasn't bothered to tell anyone. With the curse going on and a murderer on the loose in the city, it doesn't really seem like a decent topic to bring up. Besides, he's never been one to draw attention to himself, especially at times where attention was needed somewhere else.

It's still bringing up an interesting topic to his head, though. Hmm.

Sticking to text this time around for as little confusion as possible - he doesn't need people thinking they're speaking with Zelda, after all.]

I understand different cultures have different ideas of when someone is considered an adult, right?

So hey... on your home worlds, what would people do for someone who had come of age? Celebrations, ceremonies... or maybe it's not exactly a right of passage as far as you're concerned?

I'm curious.

[And he'll just leave it at that. He's technically been an adult on Auldrant for long enough - exactly a year ago, to the day.

But he already learned a while ago to treat his birthday as just another day. Celebrate that he's stayed alive one more year, and that's it.

So that is exactly what he's going to do.]

Doubtful I'm a great example but when we were able to pull our own we were considered an adult where I grew up. Not much for celebration apart from getting drunk and singing like a loon.
Did ya just hit adulthood where you're from, bucko?

It's still a celebration! It means you're not a kid anymore by someone's standards, right?

And nah, I've been considered an adult for a while. Can't say I went out and got drunk, but to each their own!

For me it wasn't a specific date that I could point to. It was a process, and proving it just meant that people started to trust my authority.

There are some people who will never seem to accept it, though.

Knights would drag the one who reached out to one of the local bars, and proceed to buy as much as they could. Or until the one with the birthday could no longer see straight.

Nobles threw parties and if one was engaged, would not be merely engaged much longer.

[The second one catches his interest a little more than the first. Going out until you're about to pass out? Yep, he's heard of it, and wouldn't be surprised if it's more common than he originally thought.]

Is it typical for nobility to marry as soon as they reach adulthood? Or is that merely an option given?

We come of age at 16 on my world. Parties are typically small, and if you're of the noble class you generally get engaged on that day.

Ahh, nothing important. I've been an adult for a while. Just being an old geezer for tonight and reminiscing, I guess.

[Don't mind Zelda poking her cheeks - or rather, Guy's at the moment.]

I'd estimate that you're around the same age as Zelos.

[Actually, Zelda, Guy is a bit younger! But Zelos uses face creams, so the confusion is understandable.]

At the Two Rivers, it meant one could begin the year-long courtship of a girl who was also of age. Which wasn't that hard; men were of age at 20, women at 18. A girl would also braid her hair at that time.

Were there differences between the celebrations of a man and a woman? Well, outside the hair-braiding, that is. [It's the first time he's ever heard of something like that.]

Not that I can think of. It's all celebrated on Bel Tine - the start of spring. All the women of age who are unmarried put up a pole the night before, and even though its obvious, all the men are to be surprised when its up. The unmarried women dance with ribbons around it, twining the pole, and the unmarried men sing.

[There's very little Zelos has been doing since the body switch besides hounding Duke to make sure his own body remains unscathed and taking far better care of Duke's than the hermit had in seemingly ever. The club was closed on account of some of the staff having tits being women, so Zelos spends quite a bit of time lazing around, trawling the network, and styling Duke's hair in all sorts of strange ways. What? What would you do if yours was that long? Don't judge him!

In any case, he hadn't spoken to Guy in anything like a meaningful way since he'd hung up on him some time ago. Yes, they'd chatted, but there's a definite shift in how the two men deal with each other, mostly on Zelos' end. For all the progress he'd made in making friends, in actually caring about Guy (that hadn't changed), Zelos had backpedaled so fast it's a wonder he didn't trip over himself.

Even though there are things he could share with Guy concerning coming of age, things he might have been willing to share before. He'd been opening up to Guy, just a little, and he only realizes it now that he's hesitant to do it again.

With a blank stare at the screen, Zelos simply clicks the SFC off without saying a damn word.]

[That click just so happens to be audible as a certain gynophobic walks down the hallway. Not that he means to eavesdrop, especially on Zelos... but he's seen that look before. Not on Duke, but on a certain redhead.

Just gonna slip into the doorway, then. his arms crossed and an eyebrow raised.]

[The overly casual tone sounds weird coming from Zelda's mouth. Oh well.]

There isn't really a specific time or a coming of age ceremony for people in my world. There's becoming a three star Meister or becoming a death scythe for Weapons, but we already live on our own and make our own income so...

I don't think there's ever a line between growing up and adulthood.

So everyone just works on the same level, then? Or is there a mark of maturity? Maybe after a certain amount of experience, instead of an age, or something like that.

I'm not sure I understand... Come of age? Become an adult? When does it happen? Is it so important to be considered an adult?

Not to everyone, no!

There's lots of worlds that have a set milestone for a person, where you're considered by culture to have stopped growing or maturing. Sometimes it's when someone has lived a certain amount of time. Sometimes it's when they're able to complete a certain task, or show a certain character trait.

Does that make sense?

Among my people, it's different for men and women. Girls are considered women when they first bleed. Boys are not men until we are able to successfully carry out a hunt on our own.

What usually is involved with a hunt? Is it just being able to provide for your family, or is it more complicated than that?
