Fifteenth Flame : video; { brother from another mother... ?

[Rin is in the Golden Victory kitchen, though for once his apron is off. His hair is slightly damp, and he's dressed in something a little odd (the one in the center) compared to his usual work uniform. No, there's no costumes this month, but he has a legitimate reason for being in something that looks more like proper host attire.

He also doesn't look too happy, either.]

So I got to start my day off with a damn blender explodin' all over me. But y'know... that ain't what's got me so irritated.

I'm hearin' some odd grumblin' around the club today. What's this crap 'bout "another Okumura"? And why the hell is everyone tellin' this guy shit about me?!

[He'll just wait (im)patiently for your answers, Vatheon.]

[Kind of hard to ignore something that you only feel every so often. Though he usually does, since it tends to happen around Mephy and Amaimon the most.

The tail does make him jump a little, though.]

Holy shit... w-wait you're--... but you can't be fu-- ... how are you an exorcist and a full demon?! I could barely get in bein' half!

[He pockets his hand again, his tail swaying around his ankles. He grins.] I doubt your heritage helped you on that one, kid. I don't have nearly as colorful a background as you do.

It's always difficult in the beginning, but if you work your ass off it starts to get a little easier. A little.

... y-yeah, that's true...

[Even if it doesn't always seem like he's working hard back home, he's moving forward in the only way he knows how. He has a feeling Night has been in a similar position before.]

Why did you want to become an exorcist anyways?

... Satan killed my father. I mean--... Father Fujimoto. He... was the one who raised Yukio and I.

... I'm sorry. [And he is, sincerely.] How long have you been training?

Little over half a year... 'course I've been in Vatheon longer than that, now.

Have you been keeping up your training?

Ehhhn...

[Rin moves his hand in a 'so-so' fashion]

Not really anyone here to train me 'cept Yukio, and the most he does is drop books on me and tell me to study. Can't get any field work, and there's not really anyone who can help me with my flames.

Sounds like a bunch of excuses. [That grin is back.] But hey, I'm feeling generous so I'll take you on as my student! No thanks needed, kid.

... what.

You heard me! [He jerks a thumb back to his sword over his shoulder.] Meistering as a Knight, yeah? To be anywhere near decent you need to practice constantly and consistently. It helps me out too since I wouldn't mind having a sparring partner to beat on while I'm stuck here.

[He cocks his head to the side, raising an eyebrow.] You say you need help mastering your flames, yeah? Who better to help you out with that than someone who's been there and done that?

Uhm... did anyone give you the whole 'we won't remember shit when we go back' speech? 'cause teachin' me shit here ain't gonna do anything if I can't remember it when I go back...

[Crossing his arms over his chest, he gives Rin a strange look.] And that makes it alright to slack off here? Unless this place is a perfectly peaceful utopia where nothing bad happens with no reason to ever draw your sword, there is still plenty reason to continue training here.

Am I right or wrong?

I... I ain't slackin' off! I got a job, okay?! First one I've ever held down, so don't gimmie that 'slackin' off' crap!

[He frowns. A part of him wondered if Rin was truly serious about helping himself grow into a stronger person or if there was something invisible holding him back.

Night uncrosses his arms and pockets his hands again, turning to leave.] The offer still stands, kid. If you want to help yourself and better protect those friends of yours I'll be around. [He flashes him a smirk before moving to walk off.]

[Rin scowls after him, but it only lasts a second, mind flashing back to what happened to Kohaku and Shing, and all the shit Alister has been through. Even Roxas... Vanitas was still around, and truce or not, something could still happen again...]

W... wait!

Hm? [He stops and looks back at him.] What is it?

... the only demons here are the one you know 'bout, but... there's other people. Some of 'em maybe even more dangerous than demons...

You're right. I don't wanna think about it, 'cause I like not havin' to focus on trainin', but the truth is it ain't all sunshine and rainbows here, and I'm a fuckin' magnet for trouble...

[He watches Rin as he talks, quietly listening. Inwardly, he's pleased to see the kid's head wasn't completely shoved in the sand as he feared he was.

This kid had a lot of potential and Night wanted to help him achieve that.] That's the price we pay for being different, kid. Trouble nips at our ankles wherever we go. [A smirk.] But this is good to hear.

What time do you get off work tomorrow?

[He doesn't show it outwardly much, but inwardly he's relieved Night didn't totally write him off. He knew when he was being an ass, just as much as he knew this was one time he needed to swallow his damn pride.

He couldn't let his friends die in front of him again.]
