30th Combo - An adult at last!

I'm eighteen, an adult, huzzah, huzzah~!

[For once, Lloyd doesn't seem to mind that he's bursting into song. Hey, if there's any occasion where singing is appropriate, a birthday is definitely it! And this curse means he's actually good at it, even if he can't necessarily control the impulse to sing.]

Well, yeah, I know. But I didn't know that you weren't.

Do you know how long it is in human years?

[Because he has no grasp of Alternian terms.]

Ah, a little more than two human years I think? Maybe...

[Eighteen divided by two. Lloyd's not the greatest when it comes to math, but when it comes to basic times tables things, he's got this down pat!]

If it's closer to two years, then yeah, that'd be about nine, uh, sweeps.

I wonder why it's called a sweep. Do you guys do a lot of sweeping?

Uh, it's close to about two and a half years? I think, heh. It's pretty confusing, I don't really care to get the exacts of it. Um, sweeping? Like... tidying up? I don't think so, it's more like, a motion of time thing maybe? Why do you call it a year? [Cause year makes no sense, man. At least sweep makes sense.]

[From the startled sound of Lloyd's voice, it's obvious he never thought about it.]

Huh. I... I don't know. I don't think my teacher ever brought it up.

[Either that, or he hadn't been paying attention when she did.]

So, how old are you, then?

Tea- Oh, uh, right that school stuff, um- [A pause, rolling a shoulder.]

In human years I guess? Probably around... 45 or so? [He- does not like saying it in years, wow, it makes him feel so much older with how much larger the number is, and he knows his math is still off.]

Oh, so you're definitely an adult, then.

[He'd sort of thought the guy sounded like it, but you never can be quite sure with only audio.]

"School stuff," huh? You don't like school?

Yeah, been one for a while, heh.

Oh, nah, I never went to anything like that. Kinda a uh, self taught thing, or- [What was it...] Home schooled I guess? Hive schooled...

Oooh, lucky.

[So much envy in Lloyd's voice.]

I wish I could have done that. My Dad said he couldn't teach me everything I needed, though. He said I had to go to school in the town. What's it like? Is it easy?

Ah, heh, I think I would've taken school over some of the stuff I had to deal with when I was younger. Uh- it's never really been easy. Lot more is expected of you, heh, gotta remember to do everything on your own by yourself a lot. Be nicer to have people helping you out and reminding you so much, hey?

I... didn't think of it like that. I do like being around my friends.

I'm sure I could have done the homework, though. I would have had all day to do it, right? Instead of having to sit inside a school for hours and hours all day!

[Yeah, no, he would have been horrible at self motivation in doing his school work at home. He's just the type who won't admit he's that bad.]

Maybe I could have worked something out to go see my friends after they got out of school.

Well, you'd have to think up what the homework and then also do it, hey? That's like, double the work you normally have.

Friends are just a bonus ontop of the bonuses.

But who would I even turn it in to? If I'm the teacher and the student, wouldn't I get to grade my own work? I'd pass every class!

Friends are the best part of school.

Pass, but how smart would ya get? Not very if you kept letting yourself slide and making things easy. The fun comes in the challenge. [A laugh, but he can't blame the kid, he certainly is optimistic, good to see.]

The best, never been to school, but I'm gonna agree with you there. Never enough friends.

I'd know the stuff I cared about, though. That's what's important, right?

[He just... really doesn't like those boring subjects in school. Any excuse not to suffer through them is a good excuse to him.]

Yeah. We can always use more friends. If my teacher ever comes back here, though, you better not let her hear you say you've never been to school. Not unless you *want* to be buried alive under homework and get your ears talked off.

Well the stuff you care about won't always help ya, will it? Sometimes you gotta know a but more, be the best you can be. But hey, you're young, heh, one step at a time.

[Summoner definitely can understand that. Besides, kid's still young, he'll learn what's really important to him in due time.]

A teacher here? [He laughs.] I think I'm safe. When ya get my age, you got other types of problems to deal with.

Not that young anymore. [Happily.] I told you. I'm an adult now.

[Because being an adult means he's no longer a kid, so of course that means he's not young.]

If you think you'd be safe, you haven't met my teacher. Don't worry, though. I won't tell her you told me that... uh... What was your name?

Right right. [18, he remembers. Summoner chuckles, leaning back a little.]

Oh good, good to have my bases covered-uh, Oh, call me Lysunder. You?

I'm Lloyd. Nice to meet you. And yeah, I promise I won't tell her you didn't ever go to school.

[Sorry, he just doesn't see home schooling as being at all the same.]

Cool has gotten me pretty damn far in life, that's for sure. But you seem pretty cool too so you'll probably be fine. It's been swell talking to you Lloyd, and congratulations on turning 18!
